WERT INTELLIGENCE to Develop Korea's First Large-Scale AI for Intellectual Property and Civil Law

2024-07-24

WERT INTELLIGENCE, which operates the AI patent search engine Keywert, has announced that it will complete Korea's first large-scale AI (Large Language Model) for intellectual property law and civil law by the end of the year.

Combining the vast patent data from WERT INTELLIGENCE and the extensive case law data from LBox, the project aims to develop a chatbot LLM model specifically for intellectual property and civil law. This will include pre-training data of 6 million sentences and over 200,000 instruction tuning datasets to enhance the performance of the large-scale language model for specific tasks.

The AI-driven chatbot produced through this project will allow both the general public and professionals to easily access knowledge and information in the fields of intellectual property and civil law.

WERT INTELLIGENCE, which oversees this project, has commercialized Keywert, a B2B SaaS service that facilitates the use of millions of patent data from 105 countries worldwide in business operations. Currently, they serve around 1,000 tech companies.

LBox, which started as a judgment search service in 2020, is now a leading legal tech company in the field of legal artificial intelligence. It has secured 19,000 members, representing 55% of Korean lawyers. Their clients include over 900 institutions such as the top 10 law firms in Korea, Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, the Ministry of Justice, the National Police Agency, and the Constitutional Court. Since its launch in April, LBox AI is used by around 2,800 judges, lawyers, and prosecutors as of mid-July.

Twigfarm, a startup utilizing natural language processing (NLP) technology, offers digital content localization solutions. Its main product, Letterworks, maximizes content production efficiency by providing translation, proofreading, and dubbing features on a cloud-based platform. Targeting the global market, Twigfarm aims to enhance the competitiveness of the content industry through innovative AI technology.

This project is part of the "2024 Large-Scale AI Expansion Ecosystem Creation Project" organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT and led by the National Information Society Agency (NIA). The goal is to improve the quality of AI legal services and develop the practical performance of large-scale language models in the legal field.

Jung-ho Yoon, CEO of WERT INTELLIGENCE, stated, "We feel a great sense of responsibility overseeing the first major project in the judicial field for the expansion of large-scale AI. We expect that the chatbot LLM and related data being developed will significantly contribute to the advancement of LLM in the legal domain."
